  • Jul. 6th, 2009 at 8:36 PM

Over the last few months, Demon’s Soul’s has consistently asked-about games here on the PlayStation.Blog. That hasn’t been lost on North American publisher Atlus, who, late last week took some time to chat via the PlayStation Eye. Atlus PR Dude-and-Sometimes-Blog-Poster Aram Jabbari and Localization Guru Sammy Matsushima take on all of your Demon’s Souls questions here:

Oh, and that announcement they were teasing was this: Demon’s Souls is coming to North America on October 6.

Don't Ask Don't Tell

  • Jul. 6th, 2009 at 11:57 AM
My girlfriend is getting kicked out of the military due to DADT. She's working with JAG right now to try to get a general discharge vs dishonorable. She was honorably discharged from the Army (now is in the reserves) after 6 years of service. She served in special forces (a rarity for women), was shot twice, has a broze star and several medals for conduct and exemplary service... The only reason she's getting kicked out of the reserves is because she's gay... She also has some health issues and disablility (due to service) and we have some concerns about her health insurance and disablity pay.

Does anyone have any additional resources that she can use to help with this?

Thanks

July 6th, 2009: I'm still a big fan of http://cmdrriker.tumblr.com/ - when you read it it's like seeing this alternate, amazing, Riker-centric version of TNG! I never thought such a thing would appeal to me so - so shamelessly

Grocery Club Cards / The Safeway on 15th

  • Jul. 6th, 2009 at 12:46 AM
A story (tl;dr) )

So, Seattle. In the back of my head I seem to recall something about a Washington State law forbidding grocery stores from with holding sales prices from non club card holders, but ye olde google fails me - memories: naught for two.

Ultimately I would take a club card, but I don't really want one - I just want the fucking sale price.

Tomorrow I will try entering 206 867 5309 and see if Jenny will give me a discount; I will report back.

Jeweler question

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 11:11 PM
I need to get a vintage ring resized cause the woman who owned it previously was a mammoth. I havent asked around too many places since its only my first full day of being engaged but I do know that the fredmeyer jeweler next to my house resizes rings but it would take at least a week because they have a guy who comes from outside and is only there every other couple of days and then leaves and comes back with the ring.
I just dont have any experience with jewelry or jewelers so I was hoping for some recommendations.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me a jeweler that actually makes their own jewelry and doesnt use an outside company who is in the north king county or snohomish county area preferably but otherwise is fine too.

Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for the best place to buy cheap(but still good), frozen bags of edamame still in the shell. If there is some place that sells them in bulk that would be great. Do you know where I can get that?

I've been entertaining the idea today, that we think differently when we are faced in different directions.
From what it seems to me, I'll be pondering some idea, and i will turn and face another direction and I will either start thinking of another point of view on what idea. or an impression will come to me that I haven't thought of, on that same thought.
and then I wonder if it has something to do with that direction I'm facing... at lest it feels like thats what is happening. Though I don't know for sure.
this happens for directions like, north, south, east and west. and up and down. atlest these are the most easily noticeable for me.

I've also noticed this, with my dreams as well.

any thoughts?

Help Please!

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 7:03 PM

I need some help please!

I am having knee surgery in Fort Worth on the 17th of this month. I am thinking of ways to entertain myself since I tend to get bored easily and I don't feel like having to walk on my crutches or bum a ride to go somewhere. I've bought new computer games, new games for my xbox, but what I really need is some good book recommendations. I checked the memories, but they are all about where to sell books. It needs to be something that I can find online though, because I doubt if any of my relatives from Washington feel like driving around to find a book for me. I have already reread all of the books I currently own. Nobody I know reads except for myself so asking for help is not available. If it helps any, my favorite author is Charlaine Harris. (She wrote the Sookie Stackhouse books used for the HBO show True Blood.) My tastes range and I'm willing to read anything and everything. (Except Twilight PLZ) Thank you for all of your help in advance.

EDIT: Thank you for all of the recommendations! I really appreciate it! Hopefully this lasts me six weeks!

Laser Tattoo Removal

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 4:31 AM
I'm looking for a place in Seattle (or surrounding) that does laser tattoo removal. Google provides me with names, but I'd like to see personal experiences.

I scanned the archives of this community and saw this post, with no real recommendations.

Are there any places that people have personal experience with? Living in Los Angeles, I went to Dr. Tattoff, and have been generally pleased with the results. However I moved before the removal was complete and now have a 3 year old tattoo that looks as if it's 30 years old, making it even more asinine. Money isn't really an issue, and I definitely don't want to cover it up, so any advice is really appreciated.

Also, I won't post a picture of the tattoo, suffice it to say it's one that could end up on one of those "OMG WTF" tattoo communities.

Three news stories from Britain

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 6:51 AM
Politics ...

The Conservatives have reacted angrily to claims by two openly gay ministers that many Tory MPs are homophobic.

Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw told the BBC News website: "a deep strain of homophobia still exists on the Conservative benches".

Foreign office minister Chris Bryant said: "If gays vote Tory they will rue the day very soon."

But Alan Duncan, one of two gay shadow cabinet ministers, accused the two men of "stirring up hatred and division".

...

The context of this news story is a poll which indicates that the Conservative Party is gaining support among gay people:

A membership survey by Jake, a networking group for gay professionals, found 38% would vote Conservative at the next election, 1% higher than the general population, according to an average of recent opinion polls.

Labour came third on 20% behind the Liberal Democrats - even though 86.6% of those surveyed said Labour was the party that had achieved most for gay people and just 4% said the Tories were "gay friendly", compared with 44% for Labour and the Lib Dems.

The Conservative Party leader, David Cameron, recently apologised for his party's creation of the notorious "Section 28" law whilst in government under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Section 28 of the Local Government Act of 1988 made it illegal for local councils to portray gay relationships in a positive light, notably in materials for use in schools. It was eventually repealed in 2003, but only after repeated attempts to block the repeal by Conservatives in the House of Lords.

Religion ...

A traditionalist Anglican group has warned the issue of homosexuality could split the Church of England the way the Episcopal Church has done in the US.

The Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans will be launched in the UK on Monday.

The group has campaigned against active homosexuality in the Anglican Communion after being established last year.

One supporter, the Bishop of Rochester, the Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali, told the Sunday Telegraph homosexuals should "repent and be changed".

...

In happier news, the Church of Scotland has appointed an openly gay minister to a parish in the north-eastern coastal city of Aberdeen:

Mr Rennie, 37, a divorced father-of-one, was minister at Brechin Cathedral but was appointed to Queen's Cross earlier this year, where he is expected to preach his first sermon a week on Sunday.

He has been open about his relationship with his partner and plans to live with him in the manse in Aberdeen.

Some sections of the Church of Scotland feared Mr Rennie's appointment could cause the greatest divide since the Disruption of 1843, when part of the Kirk broke away to form the Free Kirk.

Mr Rennie had been backed by the majority of the congregation at Queen's Cross Church.

Fine dining...

  • Jul. 4th, 2009 at 10:26 AM
My husband and I decided to celebrate our 8th year together with some Indian food last night. Every thing was perfect. Outdoor seating, wonderful food, a nice cold beer, and about 800 zombies yelling, "BRAINS!" and "NAAN!" at us. Only in Fremont, eh? Maybe next time I go out I should bring a chainsaw. This was an anniversary to remember. :)

The overlooked impacts of DADT

  • Jul. 4th, 2009 at 10:18 AM
We all know how asinine the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy is. But there are impacts that we don't often think of: how it effects the service member's partner.

I have to admit, as much as we've discussed DADT, I don't know if I've ever really thought of how it harms families. Not only are partners barred from spousal benefits, but, well, this statement was pretty powerful:

"I can't be there when he deploys to Iraq. I can't be on the sidelines waving and crying and giving him a hug like everyone else can. If I do go to those things, I have to stand behind a tree and hide. I don't know how many of us there are out there. But our lives are affected also. And all we're trying to do is love our partners."

Looking for something to do this Fourth of July? Might I suggest a scenic drive or four?

Seattle Northwest - http://www.dolari.net/pub/seattlenw.pdf
Seattle Northeast - http://www.dolari.net/pub/seattlene.pdf
Seattle Southwest - http://www.dolari.net/pub/seattlesw.pdf
Seattle Southeast - http://www.dolari.net/pub/seattlese.pdf

All four trips are based on the 1962 World's Fair Scenic Routes, and are adapted for changes in traffic patterns since the sixties (well, as best as I remember them, so don't sue if you can't make a left turn, drive off a cliff, or smash into pedestrians walking around Green Lake). I've driven all four of them, and I'm a big fan of the Northwest and Southwest trips, but I'm a sucker for water.
